Let me start out by linking a blog post by American McGee, from just a few months back. Let me emphasize, however, that there's some real trigger warning material toward the top. It's a poignant read, but if you'd prefer, you can scroll down to the Q&A section; that's where McGee answers big questions about why the canceled third game in the Alice series, Alice: Asylum, cannot simply be "bought" from EA, nor can a strikingly similar game be created, nor any similar measure be taken.
Also, some context therein: it's been going on three years since EA passed on funding Alice: Asylum. With all the work poured into pre-development, and the near-and-dear nature of the series in McGee's heart, it's no surprise that he was crestfallen to learn it was never going to happen.
