With EA's massive acquisition looming, the devs at BioWare aren't sure what's next for them. With the Saudi PIF involved in the buyout, many in the industry feel that Bioware's freedom, especially when it comes to LGBT+ themes, might be stifled. Unfortunately, the studio's performance over the last few years doesn't help either.
Perhaps the biggest black mark in the studio's books is the failure of Anthem. What looked like a multiplayer title to rival the likes of Destiny eventually shuttered due to lack of content and being just plain boring. While it had some great flight mechanics, it wasn't enough to save the game. It wasn't even given time to make things right, like in the case of Battlefield 4 and No Man's Sky, and BioWare veteran Mark Darrah has revealed why.
In the third episode of his What Happened on Anthem YouTube series, Darrah explained that EA just didn't have the same faith in it as well established IPs like Battlefield and The Sims (thanks, GamesRadar). Both Battlefield 4 and The Sims 4 were given time to rework after relatively lackluster launches, while BioWare wasn't given any slack.
