Despite Backlash, Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Japanese Launch Was Bigger Than Legends: Arceus

The numbers are in for what is unmistakably (and quite obviously) one of Pokemon Legends: Z-A's biggest markets, and they're looking rather superb. In Japan, Z-A's launch managed to outgun its predecessor's. No, not Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - that'd be madness. Pokemon Legends: Arceus, of course. And while it's a relatively thin margin, it stands starkly against a backdrop of relatively modest internet reception, amply demonstrating yet again that online chatter can totally have an impact, but it's rarely a massive one.

In a handful of other markets we've got launch info on, things look rather less rosy, but I'd hardly call it disastrous. We'll cover that, too, but the big focus here is the major success that Game Freak's trip to Lumiose has had on its home turf.

First posted (in English, that is) at Nintendo Everything, Famitsu's weekly sales figures for the period between October 13 and October 19 are in, which includes Pokemon Legends: Z-A's hotly-anticipated launch. Before I get into the nitty-gritty, I'll preface by pointing out that the platform split between the aging workhorse Nintendo Switch and 2025 successor Nintendo Switch 2 are also promising.
