Phil Spencer Says AI Isn't Really Used In The "Creative Space" And Xbox Doesn't Mandate It

Over the past few years, Microsoft has poured billions into artificial intelligence. In total, Microsoft has already invested over $100 billion in building data centres, hiring top engineers and funding companies in the space, e.g. OpenAI.

With the company's unprecedented level of spending in this space, one would expect Microsoft (and Xbox) to begin integrating this technology into its processes. There were reports that Halo Studios is leveraging the technology heavily in the development of its upcoming titles, but other anonymous sources have claimed otherwise.

However, Xbox head Phil Spencer recently revealed that they don't mandate the use of AI at Xbox Game Studios, and most AI usage isn't in the "creative space" but rather for more mundane tasks (nice spot, IGN).

Speaking at the Paley International Council Summit on a panel with Double Fine head Tim Schafer, Spencer elaborated on the topic of artificial intelligence in game development.
