DayZ Creator Slams Valve For Its "Gambling Mechanics" That Have "Absolutely No Place" In Gaming

Earlier this week, Valve managed to absolutely devastate Counter-Strike 2 traders en masse by letting players trade five Covert-quality weapon skins for knives and gloves. Sounds like a pretty good change for the average player, but for those heavily invested in the Counter-Strike 2 economy, they found themselves on the wrong end of a market plummet, as billions of dollars in value was lost overnight.

Anyone that frequently plays Counter-Strike 2 will tell you that a lot of money can be made via the game's pseudo-gambling, lootbox economy, something which is usually frowned upon quite a bit by the gaming masses. However, Valve has managed to avoid garnering the ire that the likes of Electronic Arts and Activision have received, despite Valve doing its best to skirt as many laws around loot boxes as it possibly can.

Well, one person thinks this needs to change, and that's DayZ creator Dean Hall. In a new interview with Eurogamer, Hall calls out Valve's lootbox practices by branding them as "gambling mechanics", and even states that Valve "does not get anywhere near enough criticism" over the practice.
