Civilization 7 Will Finally Stop The International Musical Chairs Through The Ages

Civilization 7 has really struggled to endear itself to players as much as it could have. Really, this is only natural. Seven mainline entries later, it stands to reason that the development team has felt the need to shake things up, and some decisions (as is inevitable) have been less welcome than others for the overall playerbase.

A primary gripe that I personally share with a lot of fans is the way that we’re forced to change Civs between ages. Fortunately, Firaxis is experimenting with ways to change this, though it sounds as though they’ll be a little tricky to implement.

In an October 27 development blog post, the team notes:

Firaxis notes that “this one’s been one of the most requested features from players,” and the decision to have players switch through Civs over the course of the game has certainly been one that many have found jarring. Since its announcement, I’ve thought it to be a structure more suited to being an optional game mode or setting, rather than the default and set way of doing things.
