Earlier this year, Nintendo managed to baffle, confuse, and delight Pokemon fans across the globe by announcing Pokopia, a Minecraft-style spin-off that featured a Ditto taking on the form of a human as a main character. Yes, it was very weird, but it seemed to strike a chord with fans of the series, becoming the most-watched trailer of the Nintendo Direct that it was announced in. Personally, I think it's the kind of wacky spin-off that the Pokemon series needs more of.
However, even though Pokopia's official announcement trailer looked slick and modern, the prototype build that Game Freak developed — most likely as a pitch to the powers that be — looks significantly different from the Pokopia that Nintendo served up to us last month.
