Animal Crossing: New Horizons is finally getting a Switch 2 upgrade, and there's a lot to unpack. So much that you might have missed the addition of playable retro consoles to the game, a feature that was included in the original Animal Crossing. There's a pretty big catch, though.
There was a neat feature in the original Animal Crossing on GameCube that let you play a handful of NES games through an in-game emulator, including Super Mario Bros. and Excitebike. The games could be unlocked by collecting specific pieces of furniture.
That feature will return via the free part of New Horizons' incoming update, but with a twist. Well, a couple of twists, actually. First of all, you won't have to find specific furniture. Instead, you will be able to buy consoles, including the NES, Game Boy, and Super Famicom, and each of them will have one playable game that originally released on that platform that you can presumably play from start to finish.
Buy the NES and you'll be able to play Ice Climber, and Dr. Mario is the Game Boy game. Multiple consoles to choose from, which is a step up from when the feature was included...
