Developer Niantic has announced a new event coming to Pokémon Go

On the Pokémon GO blog, Niantic announced Friendship Day. The event will take place on April 24th, and will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. During this time, various Grass-type Pokémon will appear in the wild more often. Those who complete the Friendship Day Collection Challenge before the event ends will earn 100,000 experience. Players will be able to take part in the Friendship Day Global Challenge, where they can earn 20,000 experience for each hourly challenge that is completed. Green confetti will also appear on the map in celebration of Grass-type Pokémon.

There will also be a number of bonuses during Friendship Day. Gamers will have an increased chance of receiving a Lucky Pokémon when they complete a trade with a friend. This bonus will last until 5:00 p.m. on the day of the event. Trade distance will be increased to 40 km. There will also be a 3x Catch Bonus during the event. Any Incense or Lures that are activated on Friendship Day will last for three hours.

Friendship Day is not the only upcoming Pokémon GO event. Rivals Week will begin on April 13th, and last until the 18th. During this time, Pokémon known for rivalries will be appearing more often in the wild. This includes Hitmochan, Hitmonlee, Zangoose, Seviper, and more. Skrelp and Clauncher will be making their Pokémon GO debuts, and will be appearing in the wild, raids, and in encounters after Field Research tasks are completed. Therian Forme Landorus will make its debut in five-star raids, with Pokémon such as Zangoose and Seviper also appearing in raids. Gamers will also be able to hatch Machop, Tyrogue, Elekid, Magby, Makuhita, Meditite, Zangoose, and Seviper from 5 km eggs.

Pokémon GO is available now for mobile devices.
