There's no doubt that Battlefield 6 is a massive hit, having wrestled the title of most popular console shooter back from Call of Duty after the series' previous entry, Battlefield 2042, proved unpopular.

However, not every aspect of Battlefield 6 has been universally praised by players. A common complaint that emerged during the beta was how cramped maps felt. You could die, respawn, and then die again in the middle of the same firefight.

At the time, the development time assured players that the maps present in the open beta didn't necessarily reflect the size of every map in the full release.

A defining feature of Battlefield has always been gigantic maps, where every individual firefight feels like a smaller part of a massive battle. There's always been smaller maps in Battlefield, but the core experience of the game has traditionally taken place on larger maps.

A dedicated player recently calculated the scale of every map in Battlefield 3, 4, Hardline, 1, 2042 and 6, and found that Battlefield 6 had the smallest maps on average across each of these instalments.
