Last night, Rockstar announced that it was delaying Grand Theft Auto 6 again to November 2026, and the rumour mill immediately began churning. Reports from supposed insiders spread across social media alleging a troubled development, with worries mounting that something had gone wrong behind the scenes.
According to reporter Reece 'Kiwi Talkz' Reilly, that isn't the case, and the delay was to ensure that the game launches in as polished a state as possible.
"I've seen apparently some 'insider' saying it's being delayed till 2027, and the game is in a messy state. I highly doubt this, and no one I have spoken to has corroborated it," Reilly said. "[GTA 6] is content complete. All the work from here on out is optimising the hell out of it and making sure all the systems work to prevent a Cyberpunk [2077] scenario."
Lining up with Reilly's claim, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick told IGN that "more time was required to polish", noting that "when our competitors go to market before something was ready, bad things happen".
Others have also suggested that the recent layoffs, described by the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain as "ruthless" union busting, were to blame...
