Megabonk is easily one of the most addictive and impressive solo-developed indie projects of 2025, but the game's developer vedinad is an infamously enigmatic figure whose true identity remains unknown. In a recent controversial decision, vedinad withdrew Megabonk's nomination from The Game Awards for Best Debut Indie Game on the grounds that he had in fact created other games before and therefore would not qualify as a "debut."
The move has reignited and all but confirmed the popular fan theory (via Reddit) that Megabonk developer vedinad is actually the developer DaniDev, or "vedinad" spelled backwards. DaniDev is a popular indie developer and YouTube influencer with a sizable following who created the popular indie titles Crab Game and Muck, and while the connection seems obvious, vedinad and DaniDev have not been officially confirmed to be one and the same.
The theory that vedinad is DaniDev has been circulating for some time in Megabonk forums, with the obvious backwards spelling being a major giveaway. Only players or fans familiar with DaniDev's previous work or YouTube channel would likely make the connection, however, and the mystery behind the developer's true identity hasn't been revealed to date.
