PUBG Creator’s Latest Game Has Launched To Just 182 Players And Mixed Reviews Calling It “A Poorly-Optimized Tech Demo”

PUBG: Battlegrounds has earned its place in the video game pantheon. It's the sixth best-selling game of all time, shifting over 75 million units, and, even eight years after launch, still manages to pull in millions of daily players.

After starting life as a series of mods by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene, PUBG: Battlegrounds was brought to life by Krafton, with Greene joining the studio as game designer. In 2021, though, Greene left the South Korean studio to work on a new game, Prologue: Go Wayback.

Krafton's priorities have changed.

Years in development passed, and finally, yesterday, Prologue: Go Wayback launched in early access on Steam. But it can't have been the launch Greene and developer PlayerUnknown Productions were looking for, with the title peaking at a measly 182 players.

According to SteamDB, Prologue: Go Wayback reached a peak of just 182 concurrent players yesterday (about 33 percent of its recent Playtest, which peaked at 681 players). That's less than games like Kingdoms of the Dump, Ultimate Zombie Defense 2, and IT Specialist Simulator, all of which launched within the last couple of days. For a game that should have a lot of pulling power, it's not a great start....
