Much like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did for open world games, Baldur's Gate 3 will, and probably already has inspired many CRPGs. The freedom it gives players to tackle any encounter is almost unparalleled, and you can bet we'll be seeing Baldur's Gate-likes in the near future. Probably with a better genre name, of course.
No doubt, developers all over the industry have been looking to the game for inspiration on their next project, whether it's world-building, character arcs, or even combat. Even big studios like CD Projekt Red admit to being inspired by it, although co-CEO Michał Nowakowski says The Witcher 4 and the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will stick to the original formula.
"There was a lot of inspiration in what Baldur's Gate 3 did, but I think we're still sticking to what was in Witcher 3, Cyberpunk," said Nowakowski in an interview with PC Gamer. But we don't want to just make another game like that, just with better graphics. We do want to innovate."
