Your Favourite Game Dev Is Probably Using AI; CD Projekt Red Joins Larian In Claiming There Are "Meaningful" Benefits To The Tech

In just a week, Larian went from unveiling an exciting new entry into the Divinity series to hemorrhaging the goodwill it had fostered among fans through Baldur's Gate 3, as it revealed that generative AI is actively being used for development. CEO Swen Vincke, clearly irritated by the response, posted an impassioned defence of the team's work, incurring only more backlash, before returning with a more tempered message to the community about a January AMA that will hopefully clear the air. But Larian is far from the only dev wading into AI waters.

Earlier this week, Warhorse Studios boss and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 director Daniel Vávra argued that "AI is here to stay", suggesting that if it can help expedite the development process, he's "all for it". It also came to light that Sandfall Interactive had used AI in the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, calling its GOTY win into question. While just two weeks ago, Todd Howard said that AI is now part of Bethesda's toolset.

Even CD Projekt Red is weighing in on the debate.
