Monolithic publishers don't create video games, teams of people do. Few were as well known in the gaming industry as Vince Zampella, who co-founded the Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward, and went on to head up Respawn Entertainment. Unfortunately, we've learned that Zampella has passed away.
Zampella, legendary video game developer and studio head, was killed in a single-car crash today, as reported by NBC News. Zampella leaves a massive legacy in his wake.
A single-car crash involving Zampella was reported at 12:45PM local time in the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles, involving a 2026 Ferrari 296 GTS. Zampella's vehicle, also carrying an unnamed passenger, veered off the road into a concrete barrier, and Zampella and the passenger were killed in the ensuing crash.
Publisher and parent company Electronic Arts has provided the following statement on Zampella's death:
