Elden Ring Nightreign's new Forsaken Hollows DLC has been a little controversial, to put it mildly. While the two new characters are going down a treat, as are the boss fights that came with them, it was pretty speedily review bombed after launch thanks to a lack of new weaponry. Back then, the DLC launched to Mixed reviews, and in the time after that, it's steadily dropped to Mostly Negative.
Usually, what happens with FromSoftware games is that people start complaining about difficulty, and after people are used to the game, it gets lauded as a masterpiece. It is the FromSoftware cycle, but Nightreign's DLC isn't breaking out of this cycle, and it seems like one of the main reasons is the new map that was added to the game.
In the Nightreign subreddit, a user called Kao24429774 points out the game's still less than favorable Steam review tag, and asks whether the DLC "truly warrants this reaction." Turns out, a lot of people think it does, and even those that don't mind it are admitting that they had to have it grow on them, and that they still prefer the main Nightreign map.
