The long-in-development Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake has been canceled, Ubisoft has announced, along with several other projects, as part of a company-wide restructuring effort to "comprehensively revise" the studio's roadmap.
In a press release on its website, Ubisoft confirms that the remake, which was originally announced all the way back in 2020, will be shutting down as a result of not meeting what it calls "the new enhanced quality" of its revised portfolio.
The game will join six other projects (which Ubisoft doesn't name) on the scrapheap, which will now also play host to four unannounced projects "including three new IPs" and a mobile title.
According to Ubisoft, the project's cancellation is part of what the studio refers to as a "major organizational, operational, and portfolio reset" which is "designed to reclaim [Ubisoft's] creative leadership" and renew the publisher's "trajectory towards sustainable growth".
Said initiative will consist of three pillars, namely a new operating model, a "refocused portfolio", and the "rightsizing" of the company as a whole. Naturally, this reorganization will also include increased investment in generative AI.
