A dataminer has uncovered that the developer of the upcoming Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is indieszero, a small studio that has worked with the Big N in the past. The latest Nintendo Direct livestream was filled with plenty of fun retro announcements, from the long-awaited Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics to the Nintendo Switch Online’s 'Mature Collection' of M-rated N64 titles like Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Perfect Dark.

The June 2024 Nintendo Direct featured yet another blast from the past in the form of Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, a collection of 150 special challenges across 13 classic NES titles like the original Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. Inspired by the Nintendo World Championships event of 1990, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition allows players to test their retro gaming skills with speedrunning challenges, compete against other players to see who can earn a higher score in Donkey Kong or Ice Climbers, and attempt ultra-difficult Legend Challenges.

The Nintendo Switch will soon receive a brand-new game that can be played with up to four players in local co-op.
