The developers of the 2021 team shooter Splitgate, 1047, recently unveiled its next planned game with Splitgate 2, set to release sometime in 2025. The original Splitgate team ended active development for the game in 2022, citing that the studio wanted to move on to its successor as soon as possible.
When it launched in 2021, Splitgate immediately made waves for its unique combination of multiplayer shooter dynamics with a physics-based twist that allowed players to travel across sections of the map instantly using "gates." Many described the game as a mix of Halo and Portal, which proved to be a successful combination, as Splitgate saw over two million active players at its height.
With development of Splitgate coming to an end, developer 1047 Games confirms that a planned Epic Games Store release has also been scrapped.
Now, 1047 is reportedly moving ahead full steam on an official sequel, Splitgate 2, as it revealed on the game's official Twitter account alongside an announcement trailer. The trailer is purely cinematic and does not show any actual gameplay, but it appears to be carrying over many of the same artistic and gameplay elements from the first game.
