I've been around enough to see the rise and fall of many iterations of GameStop. I can recall back when it was Babbage's, then segued into a variety of brand names, all the way to the current era of GameStop. It's been a wild ride, but despite a greater focus on digital sales across the market, it seems the company might have at least one more surprise up its sleeve.
Finally, the carousel ended with the current CEO and chairman, Ryan Cohen, who is going to potentially alter the course of the entire company. Over on X, GameStop has made a public proposal to acquire the auction juggernaut eBay, which has confused millions in short order.
Here's the full proposal from GameStop that led to all of this: "GameStop Corp. today submitted a non-binding proposal to acquire 100% of eBay Inc. at $125.00 per share in cash and stock. The offer represents a 46% premium to eBay’s unaffected closing price on February 4, 2026, the day GameStop started accumulating its position in eBay. GameStop has built a 5% economic stake in eBay through derivatives and beneficial ownership of common stock."
Yes, you heard that right: GameStop wants to buy...
