Xbox Drops Special Free Download For May, No Game Pass Required

At times, Microsoft doesn't know what it has with the Xbox brand. Founded in 2001, it has decades of history behind it at this point, and there's a lot more to it than the green color scheme that prevails today. Although much of Xbox's strategy has been to acquire studios and develop new projects, there's a lot of old-school charm in many of its first-party games, especially in juggernaut franchises like Halo.

When you really think about it, the PlayStation brand only preceded Xbox by less than seven years, and they're all trailing behind Nintendo's massive and lengthy legacy. Even so, that hasn't stopped Xbox from dipping into the nostalgia pool every so often, and reminding fans why they liked the brand to begin with.

Speaking of nostalgia, on Reddit, fans are discussing the latest Xbox freebie, and you won't need an Xbox Game Pass subscription for this one (via X).

Right now, on Xbox Series X/S, you can grab Xbox logo dynamic backgrounds for free (as well as a gamer pic). Here's the announcement from current CEO Asha Sharma: "Our new logo in dynamic backgrounds, profile backgrounds, and gamer pics."
