Zelda: Wind Waker-Inspired Switch 2 Debut Unites Gamers

Bearing in mind just how beloved it seems to be among The Legend of Zelda community today, it's easy to forget just how divisive Wind Waker was at launch back in 2002/03. The move to a toon/shaded art style came after an impressive tech demo suggested that Zelda was about to lean into realism, and fans just weren't ready for that stark difference.

Since then, its reputation has flipped on its head, and there are plenty of fans out there who think it has every right to call itself one of the best games in franchise history. Now, with the 40th anniversary of Zelda being celebrated this year, there are plenty of fans who think it's just about time that it returns in a big way once again.

Over on Reddit, posts have been popping up all over the place that call for Wind Waker to return in some form, whether that's via a direct sequel, or to serve as the inspiration for the style of the next game. It's an interesting concept, and it perhaps wouldn't be as much of a departure from the Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom as it appears at first glance.
