Pokémon Winds & Waves Overhauled Battle System Splits Gamers

Fans aren't sure to think about the latest Pokémon Winds and Waves leaks, which suggest the battle system could undergo some major changes in the series' next entry. Pokémon has always been a series of turn-based RPGs, with the exception of one or two spinoffs. You and the opposing Pokémon each select your moves, they play out in a series of animations, and you move forward to the next turn.

Now, though, and thanks in part to the success of those spinoffs, Pokémon Winds and Waves may be taking things in a different direction. It's still early days, but fans already have strong opinions about the possibility.

A post on X by Centro Leaks claims that leaks reveal a revamped combat system for Winds and Waves. According to Centro, while the system will still be turn-based, "It's mostly based on Legends: Arceus with free roaming and multiple targets but also now has area of effect attacks similar to Legends: Z-A."

While player and critical reviews of Legends: Arceus and Z-A have been largely positive, it's clear, from fan responses to this Tweet, that most Pokémon players would prefer these spinoffs remain spinoffs, with little if any impact...
