PlayStation Plus Officially Confirms Multiple New Day One Free Games

PlayStation Plus subscribers can expect multiple day-one releases this year, according to a new announcement by the brand's vice president of second- and third-party content. Although its sister service on Xbox and PC, Game Pass, frequently gets day-one releases, that hasn't historically been PlayStation's strategy. Instead, PS Plus typically focuses on re-releasing older titles, be they PS1 or PS2 games or major releases from the recent past.

However, PS Plus does occasionally get a day-one release — and, according to this VP, the company follows a very specific strategy when it comes to what these games are and when they come out. Based on that, we have a good idea of what to expect from the rest of PS Plus' 2026.

According to a Game Business interview with Christian Svensson, Sony Interactive Entertainment's VP of second- and third-party content ventures and strategic initiatives, "We don’t do very many day one titles. We do them largely for indies, and there’s probably between four and six a year that we focus on." (via Gaming Bible)
