It's an exciting time to be a Lord of the Rings fan, with several newly announced projects in the works adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's iconic fantasy series. For starters, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum—directed by and starring Andy Serkis and written/produced by legends Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens—has fans counting down the days until its 2027 launch.

The highly anticipated film will bridge the narrative gap between the Hobbit films and The Fellowship of the Ring and centers on Gandalf and Aragorn tracking Gollum before Sauron was able to fully exploit him. Beyond The Hunt for Gollum, Stephen Colbert's recently confirmed project with the working title Shadows of the Past is yet another highly anticipated upcoming release that will take fans through the unexplored beginning chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring books.
