LEGO has announced that sets based on the Donkey Kong series are on the way. Nintendo and LEGO have collaborated on a number of franchises over the last few years, with sets released based on Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario. Donkey Kong themed sets have been released under LEGO's Super Mario series, but it seems the company might be planning something bigger.
Donkey Kong debuted in an eponymous 1981 arcade game, where the big ape served as the central antagonist. The game first put players in the role of Mario (then called "Jumpman"), as he was forced to rescue Pauline from DK's clutches. In the decades since that original game, Donkey Kong has become more of a hero, and the character has established a supporting cast consisting of friends like Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky, and enemies like the Tiki Tak Tribe, and King K. Rool and his Kremlings.
