Newly announced video game developer Play by Play Studios, which is headed by seasoned industry talents, has just unveiled The Run: Got Next, a PvP basketball game that has been dubbed as a spiritual successor to the beloved NBA Street series. Electronic Arts released the original NBA Street game in 2001.
Unlike the titles under the NBA Live and NBA 2K franchises that attempted to emulate the professional basketball experience in a grounded manner, the arcade-style NBA Street games focused on a version of streetball that prominently featured flashy trick moves and animations. While entries in the series are often regarded as some of the best NBA games ever made, the franchise has lain dormant for a long time, with the last mainline title, NBA Street Homecourt, being released all the way back in 2007. However, a game many have described as a spiritual successor to the series has finally been announced, and it is set to come out for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S systems in 2025.
NBA 2K25 is now official, with 2K revealing its four editions, cover athletes, release date, and first gameplay information, among other details.
