Bearing in mind the fact that it was only really around for a few years in the mid to late-90s, Chrono Trigger did a really brilliant job of burrowing its way into the public imagination and staying there. Across just the two main games we have, and the side project Radical Dreamers, the series is still one of the better-selling that Square Enix has ever produced.
As such, it has been a surprise to not see it return over the last almost three decades in a big way, and longtime fans have been left to sadly wait to hear more. That said, we are very much in the era of bringing back older titles via remasters and remakes, and conversation has finally turned to Chrono Trigger being left to gather dust.
Over on Twitter/X, one user shared a post asking the community whether they would like to see an HD-2D remake of the original Chrono Trigger, after games like Dragon Quest I-III proved that both the appetite of the audience and the technology needed to do it are both in the right place at the moment.
