Santa Monica closed out PlayStation’s latest State of Play with the official reveal of God of War Laufey. This mainline, Faye-led God of War game was unfortunately leaked long before its announcement, with fans knowing that it would indeed feature the franchise’s deceased Jötunheim Giant, wife, and mother as its playable protagonist. Still, it had not been predetermined when the story would take place and what it would entail.
Interestingly, this 20-minute God of War Laufey gameplay reveal confirmed that its narrative runs parallel to the events of God of War and God of War Ragnarök, rather than it being a prequel to those games. It could also be theorized that God of War Laufey is far along in development due to its confidence in sharing such a sizable chunk at the State of Play, and that’s since been reinforced by none other than Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.
No release date for God of War Laufey was given, nor did PlayStation grace fans with a release window. Fortunately, Schreier stated on Bluesky that he doesn’t think there’s any reason to fret, and seems sure that God of War Laufey “*isn’t* years away” like “a lot of other big announcements”...
