During Summer Game Fest 2026, Bandai Namco shocked fans of the mecha community by revealing a brand-new Gundam title called Gundam Rogue Orbit. And while it was previously stated that the developer and publisher were working on a fan-favorite sci-fi franchise, what I saw wasn’t exactly the Gundam I know.
When we first see the game, there’s an unfamiliar mecha fighting what looks like some sort of robotic kaiju, along with several smaller robotic beasts. However, it isn’t until the camera turns and we get a good look at its face that we see that familiar Gundam look. That is also when we’re introduced to a new pilot we’ve never seen before named RE-X, who pilots the Gundam Helix. Just who is that, and what exactly is going on here?
