New LEGO collaborations are being announced at every turn, and while not all of them are well-received — the community’s disappointment in the LEGO Pokemon collab has been well-documented — a majority of the crossovers do tend to be popular. Hopefully, the upcoming LEGO x Hello Kitty crossover is more comparable to Minecraft and Animal Crossing than it is to Pokemon, as Sanrio fans have high hopes for the collab.
One thing working in a LEGO Hello Kitty set’s favor is that all the generic or lesser known brick sets based on the Sanrio IP are adorable. For example, Jazwares’ BLDR bricks have done a lot with the IP. Not only can fans get the minifigures of Hello Kitty herself, Keroppi, Kuromi, My Melody, Cinnamaroll, and Pompompurin, but there are some sets that allow players to build Kerropi Mart and Kuromi’s haunted house. Essentially, these existing non-LEGO sets serve as a proof-of-concept for how good the official LEGO collab could be, giving fans an idea of what to expect.
A 2022 LEGO Idea from creator Bulldozer also shows what a Sanrio project could look like.
Having the BLDR sets to use as a springboard for one’s imagination...
