Halo turns 25 this year, and Xbox has finally announced the release date for the long-awaited Halo: Campaign Evolved, the remake of the first game in the series.

Xbox has officially confirmed during its Summer Game Fest showcase that Halo: Campaign Evolved will arrive July 28, 2026. If that's not enough for you, the game features three brand-new missions set before the event of the original game. Xbox has confirmed that these three new missions take place exactly one year before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, and will add new context to the classic story.

The Halo franchise has been in an odd place for years now, with the last several releases not really managing to recapture the magic of the original trilogy for whatever reason. As the series turns 25 and the prospect of Halo 7 looms, fans hope Halo: Campaign Evolved will be the first step on a road to recovery. We can expect levels have been redesigned, all-new missions, and plenty of other major changes. The fact it's coming next month is definitely a nice surprise. And, for the first time, we're getting Halo on PlayStation. Just don't expect there to be many more...
