Assassin’s Creed As We Know It Is Officially Over

From Screen Rant on | OpenCritic

It is hard to believe that the Assassin's Creed franchise has been with us since 2007. With the franchise almost celebrating its 20th anniversary and with 14 mainline entries under its belt, we all have our favorite. Now, with Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced set to give us a remake of one beloved entry, whilst Assassin's Creed Hexe is set to be the next installment, the future is looking bright and long-lasting.

However, for one mainline entry, "one last update" is on the cards, which will be the end of an era for the Assassin's Creed title which took us to feudal Japan.

Yes, the entry in question is Assassin's Creed Shadows, the latest Assassin's Creed title which launched back in 2024. Following the stories of both shinobi Naoe and African samurai Yasuke, we follow them as they operate across Japan during the Sengoku period. Receiving generally favorable reviews, Assassin's Creed Shadows offered the player the chance to explore two unique playstyles, with Naoe featuring the traditional, stealth-based combat of the Assassin's Creed franchise, whilst Yasuke presents a more combat-heavy, brutal approach. As such, the game offered a unique perspective on the beloved Ubisoft franchise.
