Xbox's Confusing U-Turn On Exclusives Is Frustrating Gamers

It's looking like Xbox may already be backing off one of its most celebrated promises—the return of exclusives to the platform—made during its yearly Showcase event. Naturally, fans are starting to be upset by all the back and forth.

During the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, CEO Asha Sharma highlighted a number of exciting updates for the popular gaming platform, including a new anniversary hardware collection, major first-party reveals, exciting third-party surprises, and, of course, the talk of the hour: the return of exclusivity to the platform. As of now, Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution have been announced as completely exclusive to the Xbox and PC ecosystem, meaning these titles won't ever make their way to PlayStation or any other platform. Not even after the usual 6–12 month window, since these aren't timed exclusives either.

That being said, in an interview with Fortune Conversations, Sharma seemingly backtracked slightly on the promises she made during the Showcase.
