Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Borderlands studio Gearbox Software, has teased the announcement of the developer's upcoming title, which may be coming sooner than many fans think. While Gearbox Software is best known for its work on the Borderlands series, it remains to be seen if the new title will be set in that universe.
Ever since the original Borderlands was released back in 2009, the series has become home to numerous of the best looter shooter games ever made. Its unique cel-shaded art style and armory of millions of different weapon combinations made it an instant hit, and its popularity endures to this day. That said, there hasn't been a mainline game in the franchise since 2019's Borderlands 3, although the two 2022 spinoffs, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and New Tales from the Borderlands, have filled the void in the meantime.
After many missed opportunities to reveal itself, Borderlands 4 may need to copy the reveal and release strategy of its predecessor.
