Final Fantasy 9 has proved to be a bit of a hot topic within the community, in large part because so many fans want to see it receive the same remake treatment the iconic FF7 got. The sheer number of rumors surrounding a potential new release is astounding, with many expecting Square Enix to announce it at practically every gaming showcase imaginable. Unfortunately, a full-blown Final Fantasy 9 project is yet to materialize, but that hasn't stopped Square Enix from announcing projects around it.
In 2025, Square Enix did a lot to celebrate the 25th anniversary of FF9, including numerous new Final Fantasy 9-related projects.
