Though he has obviously been through quite a few different incarnations over the years, the mythical figure of Link has always served as the main playable protagonist in The Legend of Zelda series. The variation has arrived thanks to the fact that he isn't a single person, but a series of characters who operate across thousands of years of Hyrule history.

As such, the decision to replace him at this point, with the franchise celebrating 40 years since its inception this year, is bound to attract controversy and generate debate within the community. Shockingly, that reality could come to pass much sooner than we might have expected, and fans are already talking about what it means for the series.

Over on Reddit, one user shared a post summarizing all the leaks related to the 2027 release of an as yet unannounced game. The information comes from source Nash Weedle, and Nintendo are supposedly waiting for the release of the Ocarina of Time remake before unveiling the title.

The game is also going to be a 2D effort built within the Echoes of Wisdom engine. So far, so normal, but the potential game changer (literally) is the rumor that long-time series...
