Dungeons & Dragons Officially Returns To Its Best Setting On August 4

Dungeons & Dragons has been taking a lot of strolls down memory lane lately. Since the 2024 revamp, we've gotten sourcebooks on various classic settings, including Eberron and the recently released Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. All signs point toward a Greyhawk book arriving for tabletop D&D in the near future, and now it looks like D&D's best setting is also making an official return.

That's right. Classic Dragonlance is coming back in a big way this August. Sadly, it's not a new adventure book or sourcebook, but it is the first book in a new trilogy from iconic D&D authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. That alone should have plenty of D&D fans pumped for the new release, but the premise of the new novel is one that longtime readers of the Dragonlance series won't want to miss.

Called War Wizard, this new novel from Penguim Random House will release on August 4, 2026. Taking place years after Vinus Solamnus discouraged the use of magic, War Wizard focuses on the knight Huma and his mage friend, a boy who takes the name Magius, born to a city that distrusts all users of magic.
