Released back in 2023 as the highly anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom marked the second and final installment in Nintendo's "Wilds" duology.

Giving the Zelda franchise a whole-new look thanks to a more painterly, artistic aesthetic as opposed to the cel-shaded cartoon style of previous entries, both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom received high praise from fans, with appreciation for its expanded open-world, scale, story, and new mechanics, especially with the latter providing the ability to build outrageous contraptions to help navigate the world.

Selling over 10 million copies in just three days, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom performed well enough to welcome an enhanced version for the Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025, as well as spin-off title, Hyrule Warriors, Age of Imprisonment, later that year in November.
