PlayStation Plus apparently played a major role in Sony’s success during the last fiscal year, a promising sign for the company after it decided to increase the subscription service’s pricing in May despite criticism.

Sony Group’s latest annual report, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), provides a more detailed view of the company’s outlook on PlayStation Plus and the value it sees in the service. In the filing, the company said the subscription service is a key driver of recurring revenue and engagement in the PlayStation ecosystem, and it plans to improve the subscription offering going forward.

As part of the goal, Sony intends to “drive profitable growth of PS Plus” by improving the service proposition and constantly improving the content offered to subscribers. It also wants to encourage more users to upgrade to higher-tier memberships, hinting that PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium will receive more focus and investment in the road ahead.
