The current generation of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles has not really been like any other generation we've had so far. Though it's difficult to put a finger on exactly why, it feels a lot more amorphous and without structure than previous console releases and eras have been.
Both premium consoles still perform very well with the games being made by developers today, and we certainly aren't in desperate need of a whole new generation of consoles right now. That said, the PlayStation 6 will certainly be along at some point, but fans are really hoping that Sony wait to pull the proverbial trigger on it.
