Final Fantasy 8 had a profound impact on me after playing it. I remember picking up the demo from a bonus disc included with the Brave Fencer Musashi case, and I was there on day one, September 9, 1999 (aka 9/9/99). It took me less than a week to see the adventures of Squall and his party through to the end, and I appreciated how different it was from prior entries.
Although elements of it (particularly the junction system) were polarizing, it ended up becoming a fixture in Final Fantasy lore, especially when it comes to Squall showing up in other Final Fantasy spinoffs, and the iconic design of the Gunblade weapon.
That love of Final Fantasy 8 persisted for many, and now fans are talking about a remake. Over on Reddit, those same fans are mostly saying the same thing.
