Pokemon GO Overhauls the PvP Trainer Battle System

Pokemon GO has rolled out a new player-versus-player battle update that's rebuilt the core battle system. Originally announced and previewed back in February 2026, Pokemon GO players are now able to access the new version effective immediately.

The Pokemon GO PvP update is intended to make a number of changes to improve how the system works, especially with the potential for network connections to be less than ideal. To highlight a few of the changes, single-turn fast attacks should tie when used on the same turn, incoming swapped Pokemon will take damage from fast attacks made on the same turn, swap timing has been made more predictable, and charged attacks start on the following turn. The goal is to improve competitive play with more predictable, consistent outcomes for identical game states, and to cut down on latency and lag.
