Animal Crossing Returns August 2026, Mark Your Calendars

It was back in 2001 that the Animal Crossing franchise arrived and took the world by storm. From the Nintendo 64 all the way to the Nintendo Switch 2, the social simulation franchise has been a constant companion throughout our childhoods, and it shows no signs of slowing down.

Back in 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched just days before the first COVID-19 lockdown went into effect and, thanks to the latest addition in the Nintendo franchise, gamers were offered a lifeline during a trying time. As such, New Horizons became the second best-selling game in Nintendo Switch history, going on to sell over 47 million copies worldwide, and breaking the console game record for most digital units sold in a single month.

However, with just a brief DLC, Happy Home Paradise, released a year later, fans were not treated to any new content until January of this year, when Nintendo announced that it would be releasing Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 port.
