Destiny 2 is getting an update on June 30 that will add new items to the game. The situation at Bungie and surrounding Destiny 2 has been increasingly difficult since the announcement that the game would get its final update on June 9. Despite the community's effort to keep player numbers high and engage with the game on social media as much as possible, the decision at Sony and Bungie didn't change. In fact, it culminated with hundreds of Bungie developers and contractors losing their jobs.

The death of Destiny 2 is so sudden that the planned hotfix update for June 30, including bug fixes and possible quality-of-life features, has been delayed, likely due to a lack of staff. The layoffs at Bungie in June 2026 affected hundreds of developers, primarily those working on Destiny 2, with some on Marathon as well. Bungie Studio Head Justin Truman stepped down, and it seems that the layoffs total 292 cuts in studio, with around 400+ across SIE and contractor positions.
