Released back in 2022 as the first installment in the ninth generation of Pokémon, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet took players to the Paldea Region and, unlike previous entries in the long-running Nintendo franchise, it was the first to feature an open-world. With three separate stories for the player to complete, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was praised for its addition of 120 brand-new Pokémon as well as the addition of Paradox Pokémon.
Not only that, but the 2022 entries also received praise for the Terastal phenomenon, which would allow player's Pokémon to transform into an exclusive 'Tera Type.' This allows particular 'mon to completely change up their playstyle by altering their defensive weaknesses as well as boosting the power of any moves matching the Tera Type.
Despite receiving mixed reviews due to its myriad of technical issues, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet still managed to reach over 10 million copies sold in its first three days, and since receiving a Nintendo Switch 2 update back in June 2025, the game has found a new lease of life, especially thanks to its Tera Raids.
