Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are the critically acclaimed 2009 remakes of the all-time classic 1999 Game Boy Color games, Pokémon Gold and Silver. Developed for the Nintendo DS, they are easily two of the best games in the entire history of the series, improving things across the board to create an unforgettable experience.
If you didn't play them at the time, they are well worth going back to if you get the opportunity, though be prepared to pay a premium for a legitimate copy these days.
