There are so many RPGs like Pokémon at this point that it can be hard to discern which ones are actually worth playing. Some are indie darlings that ape the core Pokémon formula verbatum while others are merely influenced by a handful of its features and otherwise carve their own unique path. The variety on offer is astounding, especially for long-time fans who once went years without anything remotely akin to Pokémon and are thus forced to rely exclusively on the varying quality of Game Freak's releases.
Adding to this ever-growing pile of games like Pokémon is a brand-new open-world RPG. The difference this time is that it takes the best elements of Pokémon and, inarguably, one of the most popular live service games of all time, Genshin Impact.
