A comparison between Americans' average wage and Grand Theft Auto 6's price suggests that Rockstar Games' $80 title may actually be the most affordable mainline entry in the franchise. Recently, several outlets have compared Grand Theft Auto 6's price with the inflation-adjusted launch prices of previous installments to propose a similar argument. The catch, however, is that Americans are now spending a smaller share of their income on entertainment than they did in the past.
When adjusted for inflation, the most expensive Grand Theft Auto game appears to be GTA 3, which would cost $94.65 in 2026. The second most expensive is its successor, Vice City, whose launch price is equivalent to $93.12 in today's economy. Of course, looking only at inflation rates may not be the most mathematically accurate way to compare costs from the consumer's perspective. However, another piece of information also suggests that GTA 6 is actually a more affordable game than its predecessors, at least on paper.
